VTB Capital presents the Russian Art collection of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Singapore

19 May 2010

On 17 May, 2010, the Russian Art collection of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Singapore opened, supported by VTB Capital. The art display celebrates VTB Capital’s two years of success on the international investment market and its relocation to a new office in Singapore. As the successor of Moscow Narodny Bank, founded in the early 1900’s, VTB Capital plays an important role in promoting relationships and cooperation between Russia and Singapore. It also coincides with the ongoing Singapore Arts Festival and the Days of European and Russian culture.

The VTB Capital exhibition focuses on late ‘50s – early ’80s Soviet realism, which is little known abroad and in Russia. Instead of construction project chronicles and the highlights of October 1917, the Embassy opted for ideology-free landscapes and still lifes by masters of different generations. Social Realism stalwarts such as Boris Sherbakov and Nikolai Sisoyev are represented here with their landscapes.

Andrei Rozhkov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Singapore kindly assisted VTB Capital in selecting the works and arranging the exhibition.

Olga Podoinitsyna, Global Head of Communications & Marketing, VTB Capital: “Art is a universal language that has been instrumental in building relations, developing connections and promoting mutual understanding between different cultures and traditions for centuries. Today, art remains a popular investment alternative. Investment in art is also a historical, intellectual and emotional investment. We are happy to present an art collection that will introduce the people of Singapore to the Soviet Realism period of Russian art”.
