The significance of International Women's Day (IWD) has grown over the years. According to research published by The Economist, Fortune and Forbes, women’s involvement in business has a direct bearing on a company’s results. At VTB Capital, 40 per cent of our employees are women, many of whom are directly involved in decision-making. The Women’s Internal Network, or WIN, created by the company’s female employees, aims to enable its members to develop best practice and grow through business networking.
On 8th March 2016 the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce held a meeting to celebrate International Women's Day. The Chamber asked senior business leaders in Australia, India, Singapore, South Africa, Russia and USA to be ‘virtual speakers’, by recording a video to gain a wider understanding of different views from around the world. The meeting was held in support of the 2016 IWD Pledge for Parity campaign, as well as the WEF and UN initiatives to achieve gender equality by 2030 as part of the new Sustainable Development Goals.
Over 110 people attended the event, including Micky Swindale, the first female President of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Isle of Man Government’s Chief Financial Officer, the President of the IoM Parliament, the Income Tax Assessor and the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Authority.
